Spring Creek Poultry

Our hens have been the talk of the neighborhood. It took a while for the folks to make the connection between the pasture full of red and black chickens and the big silver wagons moving about the pasture. During the day our hens free-range in the pasture, foraging in the soil for bugs, drinking fresh water from the spring and eating bright green cress from the creek. Late morning they lay their eggs, then return to the pasture for more grazing. At night the birds return to the wagons to roost and we shut the doors to keep them safe from predators. Early each morning we open the doors to let the hens out and the process begins again. Our hens provide us with dozens of big brown eggs with rich yellow yolks. We also offer Cornish Cross broilers. This breed offers a very moist meat. Currently we sell only whole birds. Since foxes and coyotes have been a problem during the day, we are trying something new to keep the birds safe. Her name is Birdie, and she is a Great Pyrenees Akbash cross. We have heard of the benefits livestock guardian dogs, so we’re excited to watch Birdie grow and interact with the hens. |
